Massaro Lever Lock Review

I was able to examine a couple of examples of the new Massaro lever locks. These knives are made in Maniago, Italy. They are of typical modern Italian construction, with stamped bolsters. The steel is 420 series stainless. There are several models available, both with stainless or brass hardware, and scale selections of multicolored Frostwood, rosewood, honey horn, and on one model- simulated stag. The lever spring is covered by the scales on all models, which makes for a fairly thick knife. There are two models of the classic "springer" type knife available. The largest is the more or less standard size 8 inch model, and there is a smaller 7 inch model available. The 7 inch size apparently has not been produced in the last few years, but is now in production. The smaller knife is a nice everyday carry knife. Alas, at this time it is only available with plain rosewood scales. The third model is called the "Old Fashioned." This knife is unique for an Italian lever knife. The shape is almost a stiletto style, much like the current Hubertus 12 cm model. It is available in Frostwood or simulated stag. All of these knives are a good canvas for customization, collection, or use. The blades are well ground and the finish is very good. While not of Hubertus quality, the Massaro knives are a very good value. Their web address is: http://www.massaro.biz

The horn knife pictured is a 7 inch model that I just had to put some nice scales on!

The Frostwood model is their "Old Fashioned" model.
