Hump Back

We will try to review rare knives as often as possible in Autoknife Collector. This one is one of only a handful known to exist. Perhaps there are more floating around out there...First, the story of the knife. I work with a gentleman in his late fifties who immigrated here from Colombia. When I showed him one of my knives he said, "I have a switchblade that I brought from Colombia. I'll bring it and show it to you." The following day he brought out this knife. The gentleman said he has had the knife for almost fifty years. It was beautiful! I offered to buy it, but he said that it wasn't for sale. I tried for a year, making all kinds of offers, and, finally-he said yes! The knife appears to be a standard Italian picklock with beautiful green horn scales. But wait- there is no lock tab on the backspring, and there is a hump on the back of the knife. It is a lockback switchblade. The tang stamp reads only INOX, and "Pat. Pend." on the reverse. The locking bar is powered by a small wire spring under the back scale. The spring is removeable. The overall length is 8 inches. Bolsters are nickel silver, and the liners are brass.
